Hancock's father sues over pitcher's death

Un-effing-believable. Dad's suing the restaurant and the tow truck company.

"As administrator of his son's estate, Dean Hancock said he has an obligation to represent the family on all issues, 'including any legal actions necessary against those who contributed to the untimely and unnecessary death.'"

Ok..the restaurant...did the bar over serve? Probably, but how many people were in his group and how many different servers were involved? Restaurants aren't baby sitters. Should they have paid attention when he was paying the check and offered to call a cab? Yes. But ultimately, there's got to be some personal accountability.

It's the law of universal truths - drinking and driving kills, smoking causes cancer, pot makes you stupid along with the cancer, meth rots your insides and wrecks your pretty face up - everyone knows that if you do this sh*t, there is a good chance it will kill you or someone else. A restaurant does not need to advise someone not do drive a car after drinking for a solid three and a half hours. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS. Josh knew this.

As for the tow truck? It wouldn't have mattered if the tow truck had been there for two minutes or two days. Flares? Wouldn't the tow truck's lights been enough? The fact remains that he was driving while drunk, on his cell phone and speeding. He wasn't paying attention, he wasn't wearing a seat belt and he had no business being on the road. PERIOD.

Society is fortunate Josh didn't take anyone out with him. If dad wants to sue "those who contributed to the untimely and unnecessary death" of Josh, then dig the boy up and file a lawsuit against him. Otherwise, leave it alone and stop demonstrating that poor judgment is a Hancock family trait.
