My fiancée is moving into a 2-bedroom apartment so his son can have his own room. And because of the move, he’s been cleaning out and simplifying his space. He's sooooo smart (well, and hot). It’s inspired me to do some overhauling this month and see if I can make some these behavior changes stick. Here’s the top five:

1) Regular gym attendance
This has been a sticky wicket since the beginning of the year. My hip injury has created this problem in my brain where I tell myself, if I can’t do my regular (read, hard-core) gym workout, it’s not worth going at all. Now I’m a fat sloth. Every morning I lovingly embrace my drool-covered pillow and hit snooze 17 times. No joke. I literally hit the snooze every 9 minutes from 4:30 to 7 am, which I’m sure is totally screwing up my sleep pattern. I am very very broken.

2) Pay attention to what goes in my mouth
This goes in tandem with number 1 in that the goal is to lose the 10 pounds of extra ass that I’ve gained since this time last year. See, I’ve cut my activity, but consume the same amount of food. I don’t go around popping Krispy Kremes or hitting the fast-food drive-thru, but I don’t shy away from sauces and dressings, cheese (ooohhhh…cheese), bread, chips and other snacks or an extra cocktail (or two!). So, my last shopping trip included a greater ratio of lean meat, non-fat dairy and vegetable purchases. I’ll be consuming zero alcohol during the month of August, a perfect time since there are no holidays or celebrations tempting me to imbibe.

3) Pay attention to what comes out of my mouth
This just involves having a greater degree of patience and self-control which I generally lack. The events related to our recent visit to Seattle prompted this. Being able to hear my fiancée’s ex-wife yelling at him on the phone from across the room, got me thinking what a freaking lunatic she is. Then the realization hit me that I myself probably sounded just like that once or twice over the past few months. Ouch. It’s not very evolved to judge others especially when I’m long overdue in taking a good look at myself.

4) Clean out and organize important papers
Slothism (I heart making up words) strikes again. My file box is about five years overdue for a clean out, plus I have several large stacks of miscellaneous paperwork from the last two years which needs to be organized. You’d think I would have done all this a year and a half ago before bringing Chewy McBreakalot home, but the only thing I’ve done is move stacks of paper from the floor to the table. Sigh.

5) Keep up on this blog
I've fallen into a pattern of infrequent and half-assed postings. Granted, my other priorities have increased, but I use this to journal what’s happening in my life so that I can remember some of this stuff. I’ll be going back and adding posts about important things, like my engagement, our trip to Seattle for the Mahler Festival and more Coachella details. Plus, I've always had a bunch of things I want to add to the site and ideas for making it a little more visually interesting.

So now that I’ve written all these down, I’m going to Gogo’s tonight with my fiancée and have some wine to celebrate his new place, and look forward to pursuing a better way of being next month.
