The Shamrock!
We were late getting out the door and I was panicked we wouldn't make it downtown on time, but once I was there I was pretty relaxed. Sis was a little anxious, but definitely excited and ready-to-go. The run was good, my legs were strong the whole time and the ol'hip held out too.
But before I forget…
That whole "fun run" thing? Ha!
11-minute miles? Ha! Ha!
She beat me by 45 seconds. Can you believe that?!? Beat me! By 45 SECONDS!
It took us nearly a minute to cross the start line and we ran together for about half the course. Then she pulled away from me on the uphill section just after The Heathman Hotel on Broadway, about six blocks away from Harrison St, where the course turns back towards Naito Parkway and the finish line. After that, I never had a chance. She's just as fast as I am on the downhill. She finished in 28:30 and I finished in 29:15 (or a 9:25 per mile pace). I'm okay with this, since this year is all about pacing and patience (no wisecracks from the peanut gallery).
It was crazy crowded with 8K runners and we desperately wanted some breakfast, but I will never, EVER turn down a free beer, so we head over to the Beer & Chowder tent for some, you know, beer and chowder.
We passed off the chowder to our chickens and chugged our beers. I lost at that, too. By a long shot. And I consider myself a high-level drinking master. I ain't got nothin' on this kid. Must run in the family (pun only slightly intended).
We took the train back to our cars so we could head to Elmer's.
My sweetie did what we always do when we have a large group on a weekend morning - we call 20 minutes ahead so we don't have to wait in the lobby as long. When we got there however, we were informed that we can only call in if you have a party of 10 or more (we had seven) and only if we call the day before.
I understand if that's the restaurants policy, I really am. But what I'm crazy pissed about is that, not only have we done this at least three times in the past year, but they could have said something while we were on the phone instead of waiting until our group was in the lobby.
I haven't written the hate mail yet, but it's coming.
Fortunately, one of the regular staff waited our table, she being very cheery and attentive, so the service was excellent and we had a lovely time despite our incident. Mmm. Baaaacon.
I do have two slightly sore hamstrings today, so I'll take a couple days off since the Bridge 2 Bridge 10K is in two weeks. Woooo!
