Monday morning recap

Didn't get up early enough to run on Saturday and by the time we got to Seattle, there wasn't enough time. I managed to run in the pool for 30 minutes when we took the kids swimming, but it didn't feel like enough.

Especially after we gorged ourselves on the greatest baseball park food ever invented – garlic fries! There is an obscene amount of garlic on them too. If you don't have these at your baseball park (and Boston, you know what I'm talkin' about here) come out to Seattle and get some, or scream bloody hell until they make them at yours. It's worth it.

The Sox lost. They can't buy a win right now. Big Papi, Manny and Coco were playing, but none of my "boyz" were playing – no Veritek, no Trot, no Youkilis, nothin'. Damn.

I made up for my slothfulness on Sunday, doing a two-hour trail run near my sister-n-law's neighborhood. And by "trail" run, I mean a run along the huge bulldozed corridor through the forest (aka the sewer pipeline project). It's going to be a few years before it even remotely looks like a wooded area again, so I'd better get used to it.

So here was what Sexxxy Party shuffled up for my running pleasure:

Editors – Bullets

Technically, this was not the first song on shuffle, but it was the first one I wanted to run to because it has a strong drum/guitar start.

Radiohead – Cinnamon Girl (Neil Young cover)
The original Neil Young song is on one of my three regular running playlists, so I was happy this cover popped up. Not as good as the original, but really close. And unfortunately, this was the about time that I realized that most of my running was going to take place along the bulldozed corridor.

Ace Frehley – New York Groove
My second favorite song from Ace's solo album (I'm In Need Of Love is my favorite) circa 1978. Although it's Gene and Paul dismissively point out this was the best song Ace ever wrote while (insert: drunk, stoned, obnoxious and/or undependable) in KISS, I struggle to remain neutral due to its rather unfortunate connection to the Yankers.

Sufjan Stevens – Dear Mr. Supercomputer
I'll be bitter if he scraps the 50-states project before he puts out an Oregon album. I'm disappointed too that, due to overzealous planning and a horrendous oversight on my part, I will miss the Sufjan Stevens show. And I already got the tickets. Sigh. I'm retarded. Want further proof? I will also miss the Dresden Dolls show at the Crystal (sans stupid Panic! At the Disco and Brendon Urie's gi-normous target head). Granted, I hadn't known about the DD show when I booked my flight, but it's still rather unfortunate timing.

Sigur Rós – Olsen Olsen
I finally found a path off the corridor, but the path eventually wound up in someone's backyard. Bah! It's a pretty sweet backyard though, especially if you're the kid(s) that lives there.

The Fiery Furnaces – Two Fat Feet
I like the song, so I ran to it even thought I normally skip FF songs entirely.

Simon and Garfunkel – The Only Living Boy in New York
Although I have this song on my Old Friends box set, I actually ripped this from my sweetie's copy of the Garden State soundtrack (yes, I'm suitably ashamed of myself). But now that I'm thinking about it, I'm going to pull out that box set and throw more songs on the nano.

The Long Winters – Clouds
Tower likes to fall/and cream likes to spoil/everything living tries to get back to the soil. One of my fave songs off the new release, but in six months, most of them will have held that top-honor for a turn or two. Also, coming soon to a town near you, so go see them.

Sufjan Stevens – The Avalanche
How did this amazing track get relegated to the outtakes album? Crazy Sufjan. Oh and by this point, having had three mellow songs in a row, I'd really relaxed into the run.

Thom Yorke – And it Rained All Night
This song reminds me of some of the weaker songs off the Hail to the Thief album. And by "weaker songs" I mean "some of the best s**t written during my generation".

Radiohead – Sing a Song for Me
As I recall, this was a track from a bootleg of a Radiohead concert in the Gorge that I got from Mr. H. I might be misremembering some (like it might not be from the Gorge or not from Mr. H) or all of that, but I don't think so. And if the run got any more relaxing, I'd fall asleep.

Sigur Rós - Jósef Tekur Fimmuna í Vinnuna
Fell asleep. Ha ha. Just kidding, but I was running smooth – like a gazelle – my legs stretched out long behind me. I was practically 45 degrees away from being completely horizontal.

KMFDM – Skurk
Vetoed. WTF? Bad, Sexxxy Party, bad!! You are only allowed to do sexxxy things, and jarring me from my blissful sleep running is not sexy.

Devo – Freedom of Choice
Great song to run to, despite being commercialized. Catchiest lyrics EVAR!

Wolf Parade – I'll Believe In Anything
It was gettting towards the end of my run, and I was feeling, well all emotional about running. I love it, I love the feeling of pushing myself and being tired and being happy. Not wanting to lose that feeling, I ended up interrupting Sexxxy Party's run mix to listen to their album Apologies to the Queen Mary to finish out the run. Too bad I didn't make it to their show, but I'll catch them the next time around. Oh, and watch the kinda hilarious, kinda tragic video for this song. Crazy Canadians.
