Run Mix
Been running at the Nature Park lately. It keeps my interest up, and there’s nobody there, unlike the gym which is crowded and boring.
I decide to let Sexxxy Party pick my running songs today, instead of using my running playlist. I have veto rights of course, but more often than not it does a fine job.
Today’s mix:
Imaad Wasif – Out in the Black
When the song’s over, I play it again. Why? Listen. Mmmm. Yeah. That’s why. Captivating from first note to last, quiet angst-y lyrics and CSN&Y-style harmonies at the finish (and a good finish goes a long way)…my only complaint is that it’s two and a half minutes long, instead of…oh, say…an hour. While you’re there, go listen to that Jeff Buckley-ish mid-range warble and hint of whisper on Coil.
KMFDM – Professional Killer
Damn Lucia Cifarelli and her sweet stripper singing voice. And damn her irresistable hotness. Gets the blood pumping every time.
Morningwood – Babysitter
More oversexed women singing. My nano loves a Sexxxy Party!
The Decemberists – Shanty for the Arethusa
Vetoed. If you’ve ever heard this track, you’d understand…it’s just not a running song.
The Dresden Dolls – Backstabber
Ah, a little attitude goes a long way too.
M83 – A Guitar and A Heart
Vetoed. Didn’t feel like running to ambient rock.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – In This Home on Ice
Vetoed. My run had seriously started to lag at this point, so I had to move on. And I’m just “in like” with this band, not full blown infatuation. But for those of you who are, they’re playing at the Crystal on Oct. 12.
Mogwai – Friend of the Night
Vetoed. Didn’t feel like running to ambient rock.
José González – Crosses
What more do I need to say about him? Nothin’, that’s what.
The Bon Savants – Between the Moon and the Ocean
The only reason I know of this band is from meeting Thom Moran (lead singer and hottie) at a friend’s art studio while I was in Boston (must. finish. posts). Nice guy, cool glasses. I’ve never seen a pic of him with them on, but he needs to do that just once, for groupies like me. This song is looooooove, but they seriously need a CD out. And apparently they’re on the verge of being signed. Yay!
Voyager One – Intermission
Vetoed. Holy crap, do I only have ambient rock on this thing?
Sufjan Stevens – Springfield, Or Bobby Got A Shadfly In His Hair (Wikipage, Or Everything You’ve Ever Wanted to Know About Sufjan)
I was going to veto this track, because I’m convinced I don’t enjoy running to his music. But I got sucked into this song too quickly and ran through the whole thing.
Voyager One – Out & Over
OK OK, I GIVE UP! I’ll run to the f-ing ambient rock already! Oh, and go see their show at Berbati’s on the 12th.
Dead Can Dance – Dedicacé Outò
Tribal drumming = Running like a Kenyan and moving through the trees like an animal chasing its prey. Too bad it’s only a little over a minute long. Oh well, it was a minute of running faster than I had been.
The Fiery Furnaces – Asthma Attack
Vetoed. I can’t run to any FF song, unless it’s “South is Only a Home” or “Don’t Dance Her Down”.
Dead Can Dance – Emmeleia
This isn’t one of my favorites from Into The Labyrinth but you can really lengthen that stride to Lisa Gerrard’s harmonies. Too bad it’s a short song. I was really getting going. Sigh.
Zero 7 – Futures (feat. José González)
Swoon. A second appearance on my Wednesday morning running soundtrack. Zero 7, avec monsieur González, will be playing at the Wonder Ballroom on my birthday. Trying not to be tempted, since I’ve seen him already this year, and really I’d like to take the day off work and get a jump on going out and doing something fun on the long weekend.
We Are Scientists – Cash Cow
I wasn’t really listening to this song because it was about this point that a muscle in my left hip had become really really tight – the kind of tight where you need to STOP RUNNING. I stopped briefly to stretch it out, but unfortunately, the muscle was only stetchable laying on my back and doing this spine twist thing. I wasn’t going to lie down in the dirt, so I just kept running.
Dresden Dolls – Mrs. O
Pretty much finished running and practically in my car at this point, so turned it off halfway though. Thought about putting the nano on the monster, but opted for a quiet ride home instead.
So there it is. Wonder what’s in store for tomorrow?
