Feels Like the First Time...25 Years Later

"I think it's sort of incredible. It's such a gift to look out and see that the songs have somehow survived and they've got almost kind of a rebirth here." (Mick Jones, founding member of Foreigner)

If by "rebirth" you mean zombie songs that no matter how hard you try to kill them they just...won't...die, well...then yes, that's exactly what you have.

Don't get me wrong. I loved Foreigner...right up until "I Want to Know What Love Is". Then I had to break up with them.

Power ballads torture my soul, with the exception of Sheriff's "When I'm with You", Extreme's "More than Words" and Night Ranger's "Sister Christian" (which coincidentally, I busted out while we were in the car the other day after my sweetie mentioned something about my "motoring").

Even more torturous than the song was Foreigner's gawd-awful video for it...all five agonizing, slo-mo abusing, fists-clutching, gut-wrenching, overwrought, yet all so incredibly bland minutes of it being played every half hour on MTV. This was made even more painful by the fact that as teenager during the early years of MTV, it was the ONLY channel I watched and I watched it EVERY EFFING DAY.

I went into the Foreigner fan-closet after that, and even then paid no attention to anything released after Foreigner 4.

So Mick, I think it's sort of incredible that you guys are still touring, but hey, more power to you. Your songs are still some of the strongest artillary I have in my "song fight" arsenal.

Speaking of which, I feel the itching to start Song Fight III, The Return of Yer Mom.
