Gay U.S. Soldier Wants to Serve Openly
Why can't the American public get over its homophobia? I'm sure Canada prays to God that the tectonic plates shift so that they can be attached to Europe rather than the US. "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was, at the very least, a tiny step forward in the gay rights agenda, the only concession that could be made over banning them from the military unilaterally. But continuing this policy over a decade after its enactment is continuing to perpetuate the same social stigmatism and discrimination that gays face in all aspect of their lives – employment, housing and marriage related benefits and entitlements. It is time to take the next step. It is heartening that people such as Sgt. Robert Stout, even at the expense of his own military career and reputation, are brave enough to stand up for their basic rights that are long overdue.
