I grabbed the wrong (read: extremely hot) end of the curling iron this morning, and pretty firmly too, since I was hurriedly getting ready for work. I have obviously forgotten any previous time I’ve had a significant burn, because at the time I thought, “No big deal, run it under some water, I’ll be fine.” Wrong. Wrong wrong wrong. It hurts like bloody hell.

So I tried to work using only my left hand. This sounded easy, just put the mouse on the left side and remember to use different fingers to click. Wrong. Soooo wrong. I could actually feel the thought traveling from my mind to my fingers commanding them to obey, but they moved in the exact opposite way than how I told them to. I moved through my spreadsheet with the speed of molasses. I constantly had to go back and correct mistakes. I occasionally removed my right hand from the bowl of cold water I was soaking it in, just so I can breeze through something using both hands. But the pain came back fairly soon and it was intense. But instead of immediately returning my hand to the water, I continued until I finished with the part I started. By the time I started soaking it again, my mind was screaming with pain. Broken broken broken. Apparently with me, pain is not a deterrent, it is a motivator.

This has inspired me to to go back though this blog and find all the ways I am broken and create some trading cards. Share with your friends! Collect them all!

I seem to be okay now. Touching surfaces with my left fingers feels a little creepy, but I'm not in pain.

Song of the Day: Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Come Into My Sleep (from the newly released B-Sides & Rarities CD, song originally released in 1997).

This song gets the honor of being the first Nick Cave that hasn’t made me run away screaming, lest the sound of his voice harass my eardrums. KEXP plays Nick Cave like it’s their JOB, and I just haven’t liked anything I’ve been exposed to so far. But that changed today. This song has a sound similar to The Doors, with Nick doing a pretty good Jim Morrison. Since I listened to this song several times today, it gets to be song of the day.
