Monday morning recap

ParentFest 2005 - had a great time (honestly, no sarcasm) with my future in-laws Saturday night and at breakfast Sunday morning. It takes precious little exposure for those Brit expressions to get inside my head, as evidenced on an early morning walk where I called Mojo a stupid git for bolting to the park at full speed while on the leash, causing him to trip and choke himself. Crazy dog. Crazy Brits. And I promised a visit to my own parents Sunday afternoon to set up/upgrade some software on their computer and to watch sports and eat dinner (yum!), then made a mad dash to my sweeties to watch Family Guy (funny as always, but they drug out the Will Ferrell joke too long).

NFL - The Pats, being the three point underdogs going into yesterday's game, beat the Steelers by three with a HUGE last-minute field goal. And they won in Pittsburgh. With three players getting injured during the game. What can't NE do? For week four, I say Brady's arm has to be tied behind his back and Venitari has to wear a peg-leg.

Raiders lost (again) by three points when the Eagles made a HUGE last-minute field goal (sense a cosmic pattern here?), which brings the Raiders' W/L record to a resounding 0-3. The Vikings finally won a game after spending the past two weeks being ridiculed mercilessly by the media that, by losing Moss, they've lost their mojo. Granted it was against the Saints, who've lost their home and apparently their playbook since their season opener, but hey – a win is a win. And the Chargers got the last laugh by giving Eli Manning the hee-haw award.

NASCAR - Not a great weekend, but Rusty and Mark, my two back-up picks to win the championship, had top-five finishes (3rd and 4th respectively). Biffle and Stewart did not finish well (13th and 18th respectively), meaning they've got to punch it up for Talladega. Waltrip, who's not in the Chase, finished 26th and Scott Wimmer (the latest driver inducted to our clan) DNF'd after an accident.

Too bad I might miss watching the Talladega race, depending on my itinerary, but maybe I'll be able to convince a special someone to send me race updates.

Song of the Day: Slower California – Voyager One. Big looping psychedelic love is the definition of this first track off their debut full-length CD, From the New Nation of Long Shadows (2000). Just listening to this song, you could make the observation that Voyager One is blatantly ripping off King Black Acid circa 1995. And while it's not as good as KBA, it's still pretty wonderful to listen to on a slow sunny afternoon like today. Plus you know, it fits in with my trip on Saturday. Reminds me, I need to pick out a good balance of flying (running) and flying (airplane) music for the Shuffle.
