So I was reading about the updated food pyramid in a health-related article on MSN today, which said…
(The next level is) chocolate, alcohol and tea, grouped as "accompaniments," all of which can benefit health when consumed in moderation. Finally, at the very tip, there's an empty triangle, reserved for a "special treat that is healing for you," to be indulged in occasionally.
Tea in moderation? Most know that I drink tea in massive quantities (or at least, you should), so I clicked on the link in the article which took me to the actual food pyramid site, which reads….
Dark chocolate is a source of antioxidants and Alcohol, when used in moderation, has health benefits. Use of alcohol is to be guided by consideration of one’s personal health. Tea is recommended as a healthful beverage choice.
I don't interpret that as needing to drink tea in moderation. I interpret this as "drink all you want – it's healthy!!!" I say put tea down on the bottom with Water.
And that empty triangle at the top reserved for that "special treat"? I think that "special treat" (the one with NO calories) should be indulged in frequently, and therefore should be moved down to the level of say, Legumes.
