Monday morning recap

Saturday: We took the kids to Sand in the City. The sand sculptures weren't as dynamic or witty as in previous years, but they had some cute ones – a Cars (the movie, not the song) inspired sculpture and one based on Charlotte's Web. My favorite was "Pig Out".

I should have taken some pictures, but we were busy. While my sweetie and his son were away at the what-must-be-100°F-inside Bouncy Castle, my kids and I stood in the shade and fought over the kettle corn (aka eeeeevil corn).

Then we went to see Over the Hedge. Cute, cute, cute. And proof that no living creature can resist licking artificial cheese-flavored stain off their fingers. And also absolute proof that Steve Carell is funny in everything.

Then we're on to our fave restaurant GoGo's, which blessedly had everyone's favorites. A dinner without pineapple or cilantro (no, not together of course!) is a sad sad dinner indeed.

Sunday: We wanted to go to the beach, but one we don't normally go to. So we head to Manzanita, which would have been a good choice except for the 70-mile-an-hour winds.

I tied my hair back and put on a cap, threw on sunglasses and draped a big bath towel over my head to block the wind. I read my book and ate leftover kettle corn, doing my best Marlon Brando impersonation. My oldest joined me in sitting and doing nothing. The rest ran off to freeze to death in the wind and water, but they had fun nonetheless. I just can't do it. I hate wind. In fact, by the time I got back in the car, I was just so happy to be out of the wind that I just sat there in blissful silence for a few moments.

We head up north were it was less windy, just over the hill to Cannon Beach for a stop at Bill's (I heart you bacon cheeseburger and beer). And to our luck (well, and it being a Sunday evening) we actually managed to get a table outside, which is great when it's nice outside and you don't have to cram five people into a booth. Bill's has a beer that taste like banannas now, which is less novel (and less tasty) than one might think. I went with the Stump lager, and my sweetie with his fave, Blackberry Beauty. Food was ordered all around, and we spent a nice, lazy evening chatting and having a nice time. I drove, everyone else crashed out on the way home.
