Boxing Day!
For the record, I wasn't aware there are several theories over the origins of Boxing Day. I've always believed that it was the day that the servants got their "boxes" or gifts from those they worked for. I'm not sure that I actually care why it's a holiday - it's an extra day to drink and not work, and these are both very important things.
Anyway, my first official Boxing Day started with a four and a half mile run (delayed a bit by the early morning rain) and a super-hot shower, followed by a rousing game of Chutes and Ladders with Grandpa and my littlest chicken. I lost pitifully – I had the early lead, but after having hit a couple big chutes I was on the bottom row at the end of the game.
Mum and dad set out a ton of food and her brother made mulled wine (delicious – I drank it most of the day). One of the guests brought a poker set and we played several hands of Texas Hold'em – I came out $3 ahead, but as a couple we lost $4.
He'd also brought Sequence and after a couple games, I'm addicited. I'm going to pick it up for our New Year's Eve get-together at my brother's house.
